Production of GlaxoSmithKline typhoid and Hepatitis A/typhoid (combined) vaccines (Please refer to update 9/2012' )

As of June 2011, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has advised that there will be constraints to the production of Typherix®, Vi polysaccharide typhoid vaccine, and Hepatyrix®, combined hepatitis A and typhoid vaccine. This is due to a decision by GSK to concentrate on production of vaccines required for global childhood vaccination programmes, as prioritised by the World Health Organization.

  • Typherix® will be out of stock in late July 2011 until at least the end of 2013.
  • Supply of Hepatyrix® is expected to meet demand for 2011, but the vaccine will be out of stock from the beginning of 2012 until at least the end of 2013.

There are alternative vaccines for hepatitis A available from GSK, Sanofi Pasteur MSD and Crucell, and for typhoid from Sanofi Pasteur MSD and Crucell.

All queries relating to this situation should be directed to the GSK Customer Contact team on 0808 100 9997, or alternatively your local GSK Travel Health Account Manager.
