15 April 2004: Report on Travel Health Surveillance
The Health Protection Agency and NaTHNaC release their first report on travel health surveillance in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to urge doctors to provide more information on travel-associated illness.
The Travel Health Surveillance Section (THSS) of the Health Protection Agency Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre has published its first report on travel-associated illness. The report brings together the surveillance data from many departments both within and outside the HPA on infectious and non-infectious illness acquired abroad. It highlights the limitations associated with data currently available and makes recommendations for the improvement of surveillance of travel-associated illness. Effective surveillance of travel- associated illness is very dependent on doctors recording their patient's travel histories when they request laboratory investigations or notify diseases.
